I'm the moderator of the Hangar and must admit I don't know much about the Piper Tomahawk. I wish we had more activity here--especially by an A/P mechanic. Anyway, you should be able to call your local FBO and ask to talk to one of the A/P mechanics about any increased horsepower STCs allowed for the Tomahawk. Sometimes bigger engines require much modification, sometimes not. If you have no luck there, e-mail one of the advertisers selling Tomahawks on the ASO website--I think it's
www.aso.com/ Seems like it would be a good trainer, though, if the price was right. I purchased a Cherokee Six to train in, which was too much airplane for basic training. Of course, now they sell for twice what I paid for mine ten years ago.
