Headsets

My husband and I just bought a 1967 Piper Cherokee 180. We are looking for headsets and would appreciate feedback on the Bose X Aviation at $995 per set or Denali ANR at $569 per set. Is the difference in price worth it to go up to the Bose? This is our first plane. Thanks.

Buy the Bose X if you can afford it, if you can't buy the David Clark 10-13.4

Thanks for your response. Why such a big price spread between these two headsets?

Bose X and other options

Congratulations on your new airplane!
Bose is the best as far as headsets go. They sell battery operated versions and panel mount versions. If the aircraft isn't wired for the panel mount version, you would have to pay an avionics shop to install the specific Bose connectors in the aircraft. You can buy a lot of AA batteries for that cost. Lightspeed just introduced a new headset called the Zulu and they are advertising it pretty heavily as the best headset. According to reports it is just as quiet as Bose but I don't know anybody that owns one so I can't comment on comfort. There is a review of the Zulu on youtube.com. Go to youtube and search for Lightspeed Zulu.
Happy Flying

The best would be that you tried them both!! Then you will understand.. it seems to be the Bose is the best on the market, but the David Clark i mentioned (wich i have) is also very very good!!

My first headset in the Bose Aviation X. No doubt it is the best. I give it a 10 on a scale of 1-10. My wife bought me a plain vanilla, FlightCom Classic 5DX for Christmas 2007, later. And you know what, it works pretty good too. Not quite as nice as the Bose, but I'd give it at least a 6 or 7 on a 1-10, and it cost about one-fourth the price.

I am on this forum studying options for a third and possibly fourth headset when I carry three passengers. I am not ready to sink another grand or two in one or two more Bose.

Bose is the "Cadillac" of headsets . . . Someday I'll be able to afford 'em. In the interim I have a set of D/C H10-60 and I highly reccomend to those on a budget.

I have 2 prs of the Clarity Aloft headsets and 2 pr Lightspeed thirty 3 G's. When I was flying about 14-20hrs a month I was initially wearing the lightspeeds. I bought them because they were more comfortable then the 2 Softcomms i had, Which were ok for about 2 or 3 hours. The lightspeeds were light and the ear cushions fit better. I then tried the Clairty's and was in heaven. No headset on my top of my head and i could wear my cap unhindered. the ear piece fits inside you ear canal. The only problem i actually have with them is that...If there is such a thing. They work too well. When flying the Bonanza, the engine is a mere whisper and suddle vibration. so if the engine might hiccup you may not sense it as quick.

I tried the Bose, and they are nice. I literally had cash in hand for 2 sets, when I asked to do a side by side test again. The Clarity's seemed to be a bit quieter to me, and a heck of a lot more comfortable than having something on my head. If you can ask someone that you know at the field if you can borrow a Bose set and compare to other headsets.

bose or denali

i havent got the chance to use a bose X yet, however i have used the denali and they perform quite well... another thing to check is a QC2 with a uflymike, but i have also used as the other poster said a clarity and those are very nice as well....i know that doesnt narrow it down but i find that for a headset, try em all and sell the ones you dont like and try another...
my two and a half cents
clear skys to all!!!

Hi there,

I am an admitted newbie but I just bought the Lightspeed Zulu's and absolutely love them. My CFI has a set of the Bose and I tried them as well and to be honest I like the Zulu's better. The only problems that I would admit to is that when the batteries go, they go like a light switch. The other is that the case is too small but Lightspeed is coming out with a new, larger one that they will trade at no cost to the owners.

Brian
