Night Flying: Alternate Lighting for Instruments??
I hear there is a device you can by that is battery operated and you can stick under the glared shield on the top part of your instrument panel.
It is a long strip. Does anybody know any specifics about this item? I think it would be good to have in case there is electrical failure at night and you can still see the instruments, and, you will not have to do any wiring - just install yourself. |

what an excellent idea! Something kind of like the stick on recessed lights you can buy at home furnishing centers but not quite as bright and maybe with a red/white option? If no one is making such a thing, maybe someone will read this thread and take off with the idea.
The other thing that seems to have disappeared is the 90 degree flashlight with the harness clip on the back. Used to be you could clip this thing, which weighed about a pound and a half and took up a lot of space in your flight bag by the way, to a shoulder or chest harness and it would illuminate the panel right in front of you. Haven't seen one of those but I would buy one if I could find one. |

Goto OREGON AERO,Inc.- Oregon Aero designs and manufactures more than 500 products for aviation and other industries that prevent and eliminate pain, reduce noise, and improve impact protection. and check out the mic-lite. I have one and love it. You attach it to your headset and wherever your eyes look will be illuminated with a soft green glow. Very cool.

I use a red LED miners head band (think it is raovac??) bought at home depot for 9$ it is by far the best night lighting device I have ever used, plus batteries last for 100hrs plus. I never leave home without it.

Great cost effective idea... Got them a couple of days ago, and Home Depot had a special, 3-pack of Husky head lamps with one red led and two white led lights for $15. I think it will be effective for night flying.
Still will be good to find a more permanent on-dash/glare shield solution. I have also found the light bulbs, they are the GE lamp 327. I still can't find just the post lamp head assembly that the bulb goes inside and then in turn pops in to the instrument panel. |
