*** Child Seat In Cessna 182 ***

Greetings All.

I own a 1978 Cessna 182RG (retractable gear Skylane). My POH says that baggage area "A" can take an optional child seat.

I now have an opportunity to buy an optional child seat for the Cessna 182/172/152.

The asking price is $600. Is this a good price?

Also, what hardware do I need to make sure comes with the seat so that it can be installed properly?

Thank you in advance.

I am not sure if the price is right for the seat, however I do know they are hard to come by. If you do purchase the child seat you will want something from the owner indicating what aircraft by make and model, n-number and serial number it came out of. You will also want the part number to insure it can be installed in your aircraft. If you don’t know a call Cessna and they can tell you what part number is required.

When the mechanic installs the child seat they will need the above reference to show traceability for the parts by part number. With out the traceability the mechanic will not want to install it or put their certificate number on the approval for return to service.

The child seat will require a new weight and balance and updated equipment list. If the child seat is an option on the equipment list then the A&P can sign off the airframe logbook without having to apply for a 337.

Once the seat is installed a new placard is required for how much weight can be on the seat and this should be in the POH, if not then a flight manual supplement is required and 337 as it will change the limitations (placard).

The hardware should be called out in the service manual better know as the illustrated parts manual (IPM). Again you can contact Cessna and they will fax you the page with the part numbers for the hardware.

You can contact Cessna at (316) 517-5800 tech product support.
