The Piper Cherokee PA-28- 140 is about as basic flying machine there is and nothing like the basic machine. This is an easy machine for your local A&P to work on.

You should know there are different 140’s out there by serial number. Model PA-28-140 (Cherokee Cruiser), 2 PCLM (Utility or Normal Category); 1950 lb. Maximum Weight, Approved February 14, 1964; 2150 lb. Maximum Weight, Approved June 17, 1965; for S/N 28-20001 through 28-26946, and 28-7125001 through 28-7725290.

Some of the different 140 models are referred to as 140 B, C, and D’s still the same basic aircraft with upgrades like larger engine mounts, air conditioning, bungees on the rudders, instrument panel, and the famous “multi” throttle quadrant and circuit breakers.

The type certificate number for this model is 2A13 available for down load from the FAA web site. Keep in mind this aircraft was certified as a CAR-3 aircraft and not part 23. There is a big difference in the two certifications, as an example CAR-3 does not have shoulder harness installed part 23 do. If you purchase on install the shoulder harness using a field approval any FSDO will sign it off, as it is a safety item.

The last Cherokee 140 was built in 1977 and the price has gone up quit a bit for them over the years.

If you have a N-number on the aircraft send me a private e-mail and I can do a paper search for you.

Cool

Do yourself a favor and check out the old piper tripacers. They have them both beat in every aspect. You will pay a little more for a good one, but it is all worth it.

I think the 140 would be a good airplane for anyone wanting to carry 2 or 3 average size people. If 4 is a must then look at the 180 or even step up to a 235.
