Grumman American AA5 Traveler

Can anyone give me any info. on this aircraft.

GW 2200--EW 1300. Seats: 4. Lyc 150, McCauley fixed. 36 gals fuel, 9.6 per/hr. Cruise TAS 130. Extremely quiet and stable aircraft with sliding canopy for entry/exit.

There is a question over the climb performance of this aircraft. If you fly from a hot high location this could be a problem. Many Cheetahs have been upgraded to 160hp for this reason, and the Traveller is virtually the same aircraft with much less power. This is one reason there is such a big price differential between Travellers, Cheetahs and Tigers, which have 180hp. As I understand it the poor climb performance is related to the small wing, which also provides higher speeds. The Traveller will not carry much load either. Personally I would spend the extra cash and get a 160hp Cheetah, or a Tiger, the maintenance cost is very little more, although a Tiger costs twice as much as a Traveller.
