Lycoming O-360 Starters
I just installed a factory reman O-360, and the first two Bendix starters were not engaging/disengaging. Lycoming said, after the second one didn't work, that they had been having trouble with the Bendix starters, and sent a Skytec. I've only got three flights on the Skytec starter, and it seems fine so far. Both Bendix failures were basically immediate.

Bendix has a AD against their starters for the starter holdback spring, model 756 if installed on the Continental engine.
Also AD 65-21-01 applies to Bendix Model Nos. 756-10C, -16A, -22C, -22E, -54C, -56C, -56E, -62C, -62D, -64C, -64D, -74B, -76A, and Garwin G-760. Starters Installed on Lycoming Engines only. Compliance: required as indicated. To prevent starter jaw ratcheting, and assure positive starter jaw disengagement from the engine, thereby preventing jaw fracturing with associated possibility of engine failure. Denny of Oakland |
