Kind'a technical question: Is there a difference (in regards to certification) between Maximum Braking and Optimum Braking? I recall many years ago a technique of raising the flaps on roll out to reduce lift to achieve Maximum Braking. Would Optimum Braking be Max Braking without moving the flaps? Or (possibly) would Optimum Braking be that which does not exceed Brake Energy (thermal) limits and Max Braking is merely quickest way to get aircraft stopped (i.e. Max Braking without regards to thermal). My aircraft's Operating manual seems to use the terms interchangeably. My runway is pretty short and I need to know prior to purchasing this aircraft.

The terms are engineering terms and mean different things.
Optimum Braking - stopping distance during deceleration, stability and allow a greater latitude in loading. Maximum Braking - the positive or negative slippages occuring from at least one powered or braked running member. |
