Type ratings

How many type ratings is one person allowed to have on their ATP, and can he keep them all current?
The FARs don't say anything about it.
Do type ratings expire if you don't keep them current?

Think of type ratings as class ratings such as Single engine land, Multi-engine land, etc.. You can have as many as you want, and they never expire. I don't think there is a currency other than the 3 landings in that class, but I have not dug into the FARs to confirm this.
