cerification bar
Hi, I am a new student pilot. I have heard from a few sources that excess automobile traffic violations may bar one from attaining FAA certification, FAA licensing, or aviation related insurance! If true, how many violations are grounds for barring certification, licensing, etc.? I have just received my fourth violation within 2 years(I'm 18, what do you expect). Any further info. and answers wil be greatly appreciated.

It is my understanding that the FAA is looking primarily for DUI convictions. That being said I'm wondering if you're planning to fly like you drive. If your learning to be cautious in the airplane you certainly can be more careful in the car. The age thing doesn't really hold water. There is a good number of us whom have NEVER had a moving violation. Be careful and obey the laws both in the car, and the airplane. I have no doubt that there are people whom love you very much, and would be quite distraught should anything ever happen to you.

If you plan on joining any Club in the next 5-10 years, you better be cautious. I think my Club allows 2 violations within a 5 year period. I assume traffic violations are a good indicator of the safety and responsiblity of a pilot.
