I have been researching how VOR works and I now understand that the transmitting station (vor) sends out both a standing "carrier" signal and a secondary signal rotating at 30x/second (30Khz). I understand that an RF signal is alternating current, so I'm wondering:

1) Does the receiver in the plane detect the phase angle of the +/- angle of the sine wave and use that to align to/from on the OBS?

2) Is the transmitting station "timed" so that the 0/360 radial happens exactly on the 30khz cycle of the rotating array at "zero" phase angle?
