Just to cover the basics-
You would need a commercial if you were going to be "for hire" i.e. they are paying for your services. If they are going to pay you, then you need to have an aircraft that is certified for that. For example, 100 hour inspections. If you get into the regs, you will find that you could all pay a "pro rata" share of the expenses (split all expenses equally). If you all share, then all you need is a private license. Obviousely, I am just skimming the surface. This is just what I can remember off the top of my head. good luck! |

If you check part 61 it will require you to have a commercial rating for hire. And in part 91 it will require your aircraft to start having 100-hour inspections for hire or instruction. However, if you provide the service for free and not charge for anything then the flights would be considered part 91 for pleasure.
It almost sounds like you want to fly part 135 unscheduled carrying passengers for hire, if this the case you will have to get a Air Operator certificate part 135. For what you want to do it may not be worthwhile. I would suggest you contact your local FAA FSDO and talk to an operations inspector and discuss what you would like to do. Denny of Oakland |
