Ramp Rats

Just wondering if there are any ramp rats in here? I am thinking about getting back in the field. I use to work at our local airport(WDR) fueling hundreds of planes a day- yeah right!! Maybe two a day! But it was the best job I ever had, just wish it would have paid more back when I needed the money. If there are any ramp(fuel) rats here tell me what you think about your job and if you ever got any free rides(best part of the job!!!!!)?.

How about former Ramp Rats?
Ramping is the best job at the airport (No customers, no fueling, lots of excercise, play with airplanes all day.) If you get on with an airline, of course they offer flight benefits. (Occasionally some airport ramp service companies offer limited passes each year for the airline they contract ground services with too.) I'd highly recommend it.

Yes indeed! I worked on the ramp at (KHIO) Hillsboro, Oregon for over a year. I started at an FBO pumping fuel and ended up working the ramp for a corporate shuttle before moving out of the area. It was the funnest job I've ever had and miss many things about it, 'cept the money. Didn't pay very well, but it was worth it to me for all the contacts I made and the neat things I've had the opportunity to do.

Right seat in a:

Falcon 50 (Soloflex)
Embraer ERJ-135 (Intel)
Beech 1900D (Intel)
Piper Aerostar (Caddy Car Wash)
Cessna Caravan (Herzog-Meier)
...etc.
And left seat in lots of less expensive aircraft.

This is a space I've created to share flying stories and learn things from each other. It's brand new, so there's not much going on yet. Please be one of the first to introduce yourself. I plan on documenting each of these flights on that space with further details about the flight.

Anyway, lots of great times as a ramp rat.

I worked at a large FBO for a while, then I moved into the shop as a mechanic.
A couple years, a higher paying job, and a raging case of arthritis later, I'm back in the saddle as a student pilot, helping out at our small FBO on the weekends.
Kinda satisfying, in a way, though it doesn't pay much.
