Hello everyone,
My name is Pablo, and I'm currently working in a FAA rated repair station in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I usually maintain US-registered small twins like Beech King Airs. I have a little doubt regarding aircraft records. All of those aircrafts have hour meters, so I can take aircraft total time. But King Airs are not equipped with cycle-meters! All of those aircrafts have heavy maintenance records, but total landings are not totalized. Are US pilots required to record aircraft total landings? If so, were must be they registered. |

I work for the FAA as an inspector and to answer your question all U.S. registered aircraft have to be on an inspection program. The program may require the aircraft to be on a calendar inspection, cycle landings, or time period. It does not matter which program the operator is on it has to be tracked.
In the King Air I have seen as many as three meters to track time such as total time, time from take off to landing and cycle time engine start to shut down. This may be tracked by a pilot or maintenance depending on the maintenance program the operator is on and what their operation manual calls out how to track it. No matter what program the aircraft is on total time is required to be entered for all inspections such as AD, 200 hour, 500 hour and A. B, C or D check. Denny |

You're right. All King Airs I maintained comply with 91.409f3. In my country, the aeronautical authority requests log books similar to canadian ones: repair stations must insert record entries (iaw 43.9 and 43.11) and pilots must log each flight, including total and partial flight time and cycle. I really need cycle information to request operators to comply with applicable inspection program, as you mentioned in your email. For that reason, I need to know were us-pilots are requested to fill aircraft cycle information. Thanks again Denny. Pablo |
