Question Return of the Birdman

Hey all! I'm looking for feedback, ideas, etc. I earned my private SEL ticket way back when. I logged about 100 hrs in 150-152's and similar bug smashers. I then suffered an serious illness that left me without the financial resources to fly. Now twenty-three years later I am able to resume flying. Things have changed a lot obviously. I intend to do about ten hours dual with a CFI, but I was wondering if there is a text or course (website) that might help an old war horse transition from the bronze age. Ideas guys? Thanks

Return

Robin,

Check in with your local community college. Both my wife and son are enrolled in Private Pilot Ground School at the College of Alameda here in SF Bay. It's a great refresher for someone that's been out of aviation and It's much cheaper than any of the flight school offerings. A full semester, 4 evening hours a week for $82.. I'm taking the Commercial & Instrument course for the same price. It's also given me an opportunity to meet a lot of local pilots.

Robin:

The best thing to do is get out there and do it. Whoever you get as a cfi will cover everything with you.

Get Current FAR's and Charts. You are probably going to need a little more than 10 hours since you never really developed the habits in the first place. I have seen people in your situation many times. With 100 hours it should come back rather quickly. Technically you only need a lfight review since your cerificate is good for your life.

You may want to look on ebay for a used King course or something. The newer DVD courses are pretty good and I know many people put them up on ebay after they get their certificate.

Let me know if you have any more questions
