Does anybody have any info (good or bad) regarding flying for FedEx? I read today that they pay their FO's pretty good even for their first year. Also, would flying for them be considered "federal" ?
any response is appreciated! |

I have heard good things about Fedex. I haven't lately but I heard them and UPS are better that getting on with a major airline. I don't think they are cutting their pay as much. But I think they only hire within so you may want to do some part time stuff with them

Sorry to say flying for FedEx is not considered “federal” time.
There company does pay their pilots more in most cases. Cargo haulers pilots keep under the radar without the big ego as some commercial airlines pilots have. They have a good pay and benefit package and their future looks pretty solid. They are a little picky who they hire so have your ducks in a row before applying. If I had to pick between FedEx and a commerial airline the cargo guys would have it hands down. Just one man's opinion. |

Lots of my Navy buddies used the Fedex route to build time waiting for the airlines to start hiring. A few, though not a lot, decided to stay put when the tide finally did turn at aerobusdriver inc. The down side was you had to go live in Memphis, which probably isn't such a bad deal unless you are a bachelor addicted to single San Diego surfer girls and Miramar happy hours. I don't know if that's still the case but I do know UPS pilots mainly fly out of Louisville so that hasn't changed. Memphis or Louisville, take your pick.
Two of the best fighter pilots I personally knew went to Flying Tiger Air, flying cargo out of Long Beach and made a career out of it. You might want to look into other air freight outfits as well if you think that would appeal to you. Personally, the airline thing never appealed but I could definitely handle air cargo. Seems to me it would be a lot better for family life but then, I really don't know. |
