Best PC Flight Sim and controls

What are your recommendations for a flight sim program for my PC and a yoke, throttle and possible rudder pedals for home use?

I am not looking for anything I can actually log time with, but something to brush up on procedures, etc.

I have MS Flight Simulator 2000, Professional and it is decent, but I haven't used it in a while and I wonder if newer versions or other programs are better.

Also, who makes a reasonably priced and decent yoke setup? Not sure it actually exists, but I thought I would ask.

I don't want to spend $500 on a set up, just wondering what I can get.

Thanks,

Jon

I'm interested as well. I've been Christmas shopping at Sporty's and Marv Golden's and the On Top software looks good because you can shoot any approach in the US, which would be dynamite for X-C preparations. System requirements don't look too out of hand either. I don't know anything else about it, though.

I really don't have much faith in simulators for VFR currency. I think my costs for system platform, yoke, pedals and software would be much better spent on flight time if that were the objective. But maintaining IFR currency is a challenge when flying two or three times a month, especially in SoCal. and I think I could use all the help I can afford.

Figuring the cost of dual time and all, a decent set up would be worth no more than four hours under the hood. That would be a good trade off, wouldn't it?

US aircraft

Did u meant any games.? i had played US aircraft it as every controls of the plane..they provide flight simulator also..the controls are the same like the original one.the main problem is the keys will get filled in our keyboard and might get confused when flying... they have airbus also and take the same time actually it does..

I don't believe in simulators that don't actually simulate and that pretty much is my impression of all the game type programs. Initial PP training should focus on building VFR spatial perception and the neuromuscular processing associated with actual flight in an aircraft. Spend that money on flight time.

What I would like to hear about is what PC based simulators work best at boosting IFR scan and emergency procedures for pilots whose flying may occasionally have to take a back seat to family or business pressures.

Any comment?

Steve
