To answer you question about replacing the OEM part with a Spruce part of unknown origin. You have to know what an approved part is.
Suspected Unapproved Part (SUP). A part, component, or material that is suspected of not meeting the requirements of an "approved part." A part that, for any reason, may not be "approved." Reasons may include findings such as a different finish, size, color, improper (or lack of) identification, and incomplete or altered paperwork. Reference AC 21-29. The paper trail is very important on type certificated aircraft. The battery relay should come with a FAA Form 8130-3 showing it is a new part and where it was manufactured and under what process such as OEM or PMA. If the Spruce part does not have traceability back to the manufacturer with PMA authority or is not OME it should not be installed. And lastly the person approving or disapproving for return to service a type-certificated product must ensure that the required maintenance record entries comply with 14 CFR part 43, and therefore must include the following information: 1. Type of inspection and a brief description of the extent of the inspection. 2. Date. 3. Product hours, cycles, or life limits as applicable. 4. Signature, certificate number, and kind of certificate held by the person approving or disapproving for return to service. 5. The appropriate certifying statement that the product or part thereof, is approved or disapproved for return to service, as applicable. Bottom line is if the Spruce part is not OEM or PMA do not install it. There is a reason it is a lot cheaper. It doesn’t meet the T/C standards.
