Piper J-3 Cub

I have a memory about the J-3 Cub from 1950 that I hope someone out there can confirm. As I recall, the wing struts (or strut supports) were telescoped to allow the wing to flex. Further, part of the inner telescoping portion of the strut was painted red, so that if the wing were stressed beyond design specs the red would show. If anyone can confirm this recollection as either accurate or imaginary, I'll be most appreciative. Thanks much, --Stan

I had an older gent tell me of these on a Taylorcraft, saying that it smoothed up the ride in turbulance. I have never seen or heard anything other than that conversation. It is concievable that it would work, but too flaky to ever get anyone to buy it.

Skid,
Thanks for the info. I tried to email you but apparently your listed e-address is wrong. Since Taylor was one of the original designers of the J-3, I'm encouraged by the fact that there may have been such a strut on a Taylorcraft. I'll keep looking.
Stan
