Crossing the US in DA-40

Hoping to get some advise from y'all. I am an instrument pilot about to start my commercial and I want to fly from Georgia to Olympia, Washington. I am a relatively lowtime pilot (about 150 hours) and have no mountain experience. I have been given some literature on the subject by my old instructor, so I will be educated. But does anyone have an opinion on crossing in the south around New Mexico verses up North? Has anyone made a similar trip in a single engine? I'll be flying a Diamond Star 40 with G1000 and wx and all the bells and whistles (yes, i know how to use them). It'll fly about 150 true with max approved alt 14,000. About 160 HP max continuous and 180 HP with prop full forward. I am very petite and will be flying with 1-2 other girls and minimal luggage, maybe about 430 lbs of passengers and baggage. About 4 hours flying with full tanks,so depending on winds fuel stops every 3 hours. What do you think?

chicksfly,

I have absolutely no experience or idea . . . I am still a SP with only 9.5 hours. Just wanted to say that it sounds like a lot of fun and I wish someday I could ask the same kind of questions.

Happy flying; have fun and be safe.
