Parts
As some of you may know I am a FAA inspector, but one that wears the white hat most of the time. Anyway I have read several articles about where to buy parts or cheap parts. Parts are parts right? If you own an experimental aircraft parts are sort of parts. Please be aware when you have your annual inspection the A&P/IA is looking at your parts and where they came from. All parts that are installed on your Type Certificated (TC) aircraft have to be traceable to an approved source. Someone like the manufacture or if you get a part off of an used aircraft like pick and pull, note the N-number and serial number of the aircraft the part came off of, this should be noted in your maintenance records. I hate to say this, but the owner/operator is responsible for this. So give you’re A&P some assistance provide the part records to them. Mechanic’s now have a new Rule FAR 43.10 to follow show traceability will make their job easy and cost you less on your next annual.
