Headset noise

We have had our Lightspeed 15XL and 20XL's for a couple of months now. We really like the comfort and quietness due to the noise cancellation; however, we are noticing a persistent faint beep every 10 seconds or so during flight. Has anyone had this happen to them. What possible things should we check or is this normal for these headsets?

I have not experienced this myself with my LightSpeed 20XL set, but I have seen several posts online of people reporting the same thing....so you're not the first to run into this. I've seen it attributed to various radio sources and problems with the headset, but don't recall the exact cause. I'd give LightSpeed a call and see what they say...I bet they know exactly what's up.

Now that I've got your ear....I have the 20XL. I am planning to get a second set for my passenger, and was wondering about maybe getting the 15XL to save a few bucks. Just how much of a difference do you notice between the two models? If you had to do it over again, would you get one of each, or two of the same models?

Thanks!

I don't know which noise you hear, but have you tried to turn off the strobs?

Being the "right seat" in our plane, I have the 15XL's. There is to my ear only slight difference in the two. They are both very comfortable (I always got headaches with our old ones), and the noise cancellation is great. I think the 15's are a good choice for your passengers. (just make sure they remember to push the NR button--makes all the difference :-) We will give Lightspeed a call on the noise problem and I'll post the findings later.

Got a hold of Lightspeed. The intermittant beep we were hearing was due to a radar in the vicinity. The closer we got to it, the louder the beep. Also found that the ANR was dropping out in flight every once in awhile...low batteries! So much for the 40 hr. battery that came with the set :-( Found this out after sending it back to the factory. Oh well, lesson learned. Still, we love the headsets.

BirdMan,

Did you get a second pair of LightSpeeds? Did you go for the 15 or the 20? I am about to purchase 2 pair of ANR and am leaning toward the model 15 just to save some money. Any more comment about the Lightspeed in general and the difference between the 15 and 20 models?

Thanks
Jim
