1985 Maule 6 wind locks??
Can anyone steer me to a site where I can have some wind locks made for the float rudder and the main rudder? When the plane is out of the water it is getting whipped by the wind causing damage and re-rigging fees. Maybe a tail cover could be made to prevent this. Thanks in advance.

What type of airplane?

Hi SummitGolfer, The plane is a 1985 Maule 6 float plane. If there is another model number available, I will get it for you.

I have two thoughts:
1) Get 2 pieces of 2x4 which are longer than the rudder/vertical stab is wide. Pad the wood and get a spacer between them and clamp the whole tail with the 2x4s. Hard to do when the tail hangs out over the water, but it is probably the easiest to build and will not cause wear on cables or pulleys. 2) Make a couple of wooden blocks that fit against the seat rails and push up against both rudder pedals. Some sort of jackscrew to adjust the tension would be needed unless you positively clamp the blocks to the rudder pedals and the seat rails. This would be easy to put on and take off, but does allow the cables and pulleys to wear over time. |
Great option Frodo. I'll give number 2 a try. thanks
