Droop Wing Tips

Does anyone out there have any real time experience with "droop wing tips?" These are the type put out by Madras Air Service, Aircraft Spuce, etc. I have a Cessna 172M and I am thinking of adding this feature for most of the reasons listed by the manufactures for having them, i.e. greater aileron control, increased speed, increased climb rate, etc. Let me hear from you aces.

We had Madras droop tips put on our Musketeer a couple of months ago and have found them to perform quite well. There is more stability, especially in the crosswind and flare and our approach (stall speed) has dropped about 5 mph (thus shorter landings). Our original tips had almost disintegrated! The new tips look great, were cheaper than the Beech tips, and we gained about 35 lbs. useful load. Don't know the specs on Cessnas but Leo Demer from Madras is quite helpful. The tips came rough so you need to fill in the pits and sand before painting. Good luck.

Don’t expect to see any speed increase, you might be disappointed. All the rest is valid.

Ben's right...we haven't seen an increase in speed either, just more stability. (but that's with a Beech Musketeer)
