Handheld GPS Comparison
Am considering buying a handheld GPS. Due to budget, am looking at the following three: a) Garmin GPS Pilot III, b) Lorwance Airmap 300, c) Lorance Airmap 100. Am leaning towards the Airmap 100 due to size for yoke mount and inclusion of accessories. Any advice pro/con from anyone owning any of these three?
Thanks in advance for your help! |

About a year ago I went through the same process and settled on a Lowrance 100. I've been happy with my choice. It includes all the features needed for VFR backup naviagation. Unfortunately my airplane has bowtie yokes and I have not been able to figure out how to mount it yet.
I did shop around a bit and found that hart aviation (http://www.hartaviation.com) had the best prices for whatever model you choose. |

I bought one and found that once I mounted it on the yolk it was just to small. To be specific, it was very hard for me to see all the detail at that distance because of the size of the screen. So I decided to trade in in on a garmin 195 and I have been pleased. Bigger is better if you have the room and I think that the new garmin that has color is even better yet.

I have had a Garmin 90 for several years that I use in my non electric Pitts. I like the small size, quality, and simple logical use that doesn't require you to remember lot of unique commands that can be a problem for the occaisonal user like myself, as I seldom travel in the Pitts. I like the keep it simple rule, and find the size more important to me than extra features I don't really need or want. If you are on a budget, the cuurent model 92 is hard to beat. The display has all the information I need and looking out the canopy is the best moving map I know of.
