GPS-based Roll and Pitch!

Hi guys!

I have found a web site from where you can download a free demo for a
navigation software for GPS, you know, moving map, etc..

Is at http://www.intecoconsulting.com/downloads.html

But what's cool is that this program outputs a GPS-based roll and pitch.
I have tried it and is not bad at all.

But the question is: how the hack can you get roll and pitch from GPS?

A single GPS antenna installation can only return a position and velocity between positions. However, with mulitple antennas, and receivers (3 minimum) 3-D attitude information soley from GPS can be solved. Typical installations have the antennas seperated as much as possible, such as on two wingtips and the vertical tail. Depending on the GPS units used (CA code only, DGPS with RTCM corrections, or a full real-time survey solution such as real-time kinematic) pitch, roll and heading can be determined between 0.5 degrees and a couple of degrees. A better solution for determining pitch and roll is a Intertial Gyro insturment such as an IMU which is closely coupled with GPS to achieve roll, pitch and heading to less than 20 arc seconds. I use such a system to position aerial photography aircraft, and we are resloving position to 5 centimeters, and pitch, roll and heading to 10 to 20 arc second accuracies. Given enough money and technology, anything is possible.
