Trying to land an aviation career, no experience

Sup guys, please listen to this.

    In short,
How do I approach a [entry] job into aviation ?

A few months ago, I would walk in to my local FBO asking if any positions were available about once every week. Of course they weren't hiring, but every time I went, I would drop off my resume and remind them of my name. I just wanted to let them know that I'm consistent and very interested.
Anyways, Fast forward to about a week ago or two ago, that very FBO I always went too had two positions available for "line service tech" which were posted on Craig-list. GREAT, I go visit them the very next day and the general manager pretty much gave me an 'on the spot' interview. Asked about my availability, explain in detail what I would be doing, and that there wasn't any experience required. All in all, I thought I was the perfect candidate. Soon after, I followed though with a thank you letter for interview and waited a week. After that, I called just to find out I didn't get the job, . I asked for feedback, but never got a call.

I really want to do SOMETHING in aviation, it my career path, its been my choice since I was sophomore in HS. I'm in college now and pursing an AA degree. After I would like to take flying school or some degree in Avionics.

So yea, That was my first taste of failing at getting a job into aviation.

The only thing my resume could show is my retail and customer service experiences (work in a clothing store). So I'm pretty much in the pits in aviation, I have nothing to show.

How would I go about introducing myself to get my foot in door of an aviation career?

I'm not exactly sure what a "Line Service Tech" is, but perhaps they were looking for somebody with a little more experience related to the field - or perhaps they felt that you didn't meet the necessary qualifications for the job?

In either case, don't let this opportunity discern you. I once applied for a restaurant but got denied (as a busboy type of position.) Mind you, I had no prior experience in the food service, and they never called me back after the interview.

A week later I applied to be a security technician for a healthcare company in the 3 states (California, Nevada, & Arizona), I was called for an interview and they immediately wanted to hire me - the general manager even said I was "The perfect candidate". This position was also a higher-level, competitive position. I was lucky to get the opportunity, but unfortunately my college schedule conflicted, so I couldn't take it.

The point of my story, is that sometimes even the simplest "no experience necessary" jobs really do require a certain degree of experience in the field. I couldn't get an extremely basic job at a restaurant, but I was immediately hired (yes they did offer me the tech position) after my interview for a position that generally requires a Bachelors degree (I was in my first year of college at the time.)

Stay motivated and don't get discouraged. You'll eventually find the right job. It may help to have a background in Aviation - so once you start your flight training, you may very well find that landing a job in aviation becomes easier.

    I had the same problem

I started out by volunteering at the local airfield working for free in my spare time,( while attending college for my A&P ticket) in order to get that oh so holy "experience".
Once I had been around aircraft for a while, the paying jobs started to come in, and so far they are still coming in, though do not expect to stay at any one aviation job for your whole career. That is simply not the way it goes anymore.
You'll probably work for many different companies over the years. It is just the way aviation work goes these days. And you better be willing to move around some as well. You have to go where the work is.

    Aviation Job

    Hey Adam,

I know what your going through. I have been a line tech for years now. FBOs aren't the same as they used to be.

Depending on your location, there are some other options. I would try a local regional carrier first. Get online and try Skywest or another local carrier.

If that doesn't work, go back to that FBO and let them know that you would be interested in a CSR position. With your customer service experience, that should hire you.

Let me know where you are. If it is the same FBO that I work for, maybe I can do something.

    Thanks for the responses.

So far, there hasn't been any luck.

BUT, the same FBO (Avion jet center) that interviewed me a while back is hiring AGAIN. I found out though Craiglist jobs.
Any ways I sent an email stating I was still Interested, but I feel discouraged to even try , I haven't received any response yet.
