Flight School in the Bay Area

I am looking for a flight school in or around San Francisco. I would like to get my Private License without spending $10,000. Is this possible? Thank you for your help.

The answer is yes, you just have to call around at different schools. There are several clubs and schools to choose from so I have provided a few I know of, but there are several others in Livermore, Concord, Gnoss Field, Santa Rosa, San Carlos, and etc.

I don't guarantee any rates or make any recommendations.

I see that this thread is old, but I'm thinking about taking lessons in the East Bay too, mainly looking at Ahart and Oakland Fliers. Ahart is $5100, and oakland is 5800, 6400 if you use the cessna 172. Much less than the $10K you asked about...

My private pilot certificate cost me $7,000. It took me 59.8 hours. That was in 2002.

Private Pilot

I finished up in October, took me just under a hundred hours. Could have done it in around 75, but took a few months off to go travel. We bought our own 172, so I have no real idea what it cost. (only the anal retentive keep track of all their hourly costs), But, instructors 25 to 35 per hour for about 85% of the hours. Fuel 6 to 8 gallons per hour. Insurance and tiedowns about 130 per month..

The satisfactory PP checkride - PRICELESS

Hey banpei, I am also looking to start my flight training in the bay area either in oakland, Hayward, or San Carlos. To avoid "renting" a plane and throwing that money away, i am considering buying a 172 or 182 and doing a leaseback. PM me you would be interested in doing something like that together.

Also what schools are you looking at?
