You will want to see what your instructor/flight school wants you to do on this point. Some flight schools require that you use a certain curriculem.
However, I love Gliem's private pilot kit. Huge bang for the buck and it's written in an outline form, which makes it easier to look stuff up. Additionally, you get a software CD that allows you to do practice tests on the computer.
As an instructor, the Gliem
PPL Kit supplemented with a Jeppesen Text book would be my weapon of choice. Gliem is good by itself though and you can get it at skygeek.com for like $125 Not bad considering most kits cost more than that
