Headset recommendations please...

Hello,

Yesterday I have started my training and by today I have almost two hours .
I would like to ask your recommendation and/or opinion about aviation headsets. I have a headset, which I purchased on Ebay two years ago. It works fine for now, however, it is a bit embarrassing to use it as an insulation on the cables between mic and head cups falls apart and I am not sure how or where to take the headset to fix it.

I am considering following brands:
David Clark
Sennheiser
SkyLite

Cost is important (~$100-150, I will probably use Ebay again ). Please advise which brand and model is the best for a beginner.

Additionally, did anybody try conventional BoseŽ QC2 with UFLYMIKE (see UFlyMike). I have QC2, however, I hesitate to spend $200 on mic add-on.

Your help and advice is appreciated. Thank you.

QC2 mic adapter

If you already own the QC2 then the mic adapter is well worth it.

I don't recommend the UFlyMike

The UFlyMike is a bad option. If the battery dies on the headset, you can't hear any radio communications. Any other ANR headset that is designed for aviation ensures that only the ANR stops working if the batteries die.
For under $150 I would look at the Lightspeed QFR Solo for ~$155. It is reasonably comfortable and very quiet. If budget isn't a question, the Bose is the best. Although Lightspeed is is claiming their new headset the Zulu is better. There is a review of the Lightspeed on youtube, search for Lightspeed Zulu.

If you are considering David Clark, go with the H10-13.4. The electret mic is better that the carbon mic on the H10-30 (unless you are flying helicopters). The biggest advantage of the H10-60 over the others is the ability to exchange the regular cable for the helicopter cable. Also, watch out for David Clark headsets on eBay. David Clarks makes some models that aren't compatible with General Aviation. If you buy one of those, you will spend as much as a new headset converting it to work in a GA airplane.

I would have to agree that the H10-13.4. is one of the best choices. I love the headset, plus it is very durable i have dropped it LOTS of times.
