Help With Landing, Please!!!

i did a search and found some helpful replies on the subject but thought i might solicit more. i'm a student pilot working towards a sports pilot certificate. i've been training in a 60 hp ultralight and have solo'd only once. i had to take a few months off from training and went back to it today. i'm still struggling executing a clean landing consistently (everything else seems to be going well). my problem is the pitch and power adjustments that come into play when flaring the plane and stalling it appropriately. i get confused about how to adjust the power in order to keep the plane from dropping because of stalling while making sure i don't gain altitude. my instructor has told me to flair and reduce power enough for the rear wheels to touch down but to look peripherally for the runway approaching too fast so that i can add power to prevent dropping and landing too hard. that thought process is a bit overwhelming. any help with this dilemma in such a critical point in flying would be appreciated. i realize that actual practice is the real solution to this, but i was hoping there were some mental "words of wisdom" that might help me self-check between now and my next lesson (a week from now because of an out of town trip). thanks for your help and sorry for the length of the post.

1. Do what your instructor tells you to do. If it ain't working, you can try another instructor. Don't accept 3rd party advice from anyone who isn't an actual instructor and who has flown with you.
2. Repeat 1. above.
