FAA Manuals for PPL-So Much !
Hi,
I'm planning to come to Florida to fulfill my dream of becoming a private pilot. I am a 44 Brit, with zero experience. I intend to start on an accelerated programme in mid September 2008. I downloaded the following manuals from the FAA website: AIM, Airplane Flying Handbook, and Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge. I have finished the Airplane Flying Handbook but am concerned the other ones are so thick and it will take me too long to finish studying. Is all the material in these manuals (besides on helicopters) essential for the FAA Written and Oral ? Is there an easier way of studying for these exams without having to read all these manuals; I guess Gleims, Sporty's etc ? Appreciate your experience and guidance on this. Cheers, Steve |

I'm going for my PPL as well.
I would suggest plowing through Jeppesen's Private Pilot Manual - it will give you all the basics in an easily readable framework. You will need most of the material in the manual to become a safe & proficient pilot. You may also find these links helpfull:

As the old saying goes knowledge is power. In aviation knowledge will save your life if you send me an your address thru my private web site I can send you some new FAA study books. One is Weight and Balance you really should know this like the back of your hand and navigation is another. I happen to have several of the books sitting in my office I can send to study.
You may also may want to go the FAA web site and download the practical test standard as it will explain what area you really need to know and will be tested on. Trying to push thru this real fast may not be the best thing to do as it takes time to absorbed all the material need to be a good pilot. The web site is: Welcome to StacheAir |
