Flying Clubs

I am a new student pilot in Ohio. I was recently approached about joining a flight club that has one airplane - a C172. I was curious about other experiences in clubs. My concern is plane availability, what others are paying an any other information that you may have for someone new to this concept. I should also mention that this is a non equity club. At this early stage in my flying, I dont want to over commit.

I am in two flying clubs actually. One is a club out of a private strip. We fly a 172 for i think $43 dollars an hour. We also pay $15 a month in membership dues, plus a $150 joining fee. The other club I am in is through my university. We own 7 aircraft -152, 172 & Arrow. The only fee is $40 a year, but the prices are a bit higher. Not as high as the FBO or flight school, but not as good as the previously mentioned club.

I really think that flying clubs are good a deal. They give you decent prices, but more importantly let you network. You really get to know other club members and this usually helps at later times.

Thanks - This club is more expensive. $450 to join (refundable), and $45 per hour to fly. The airplane is at a moderate size airport with commercial traffic, where I take lessons. I know it is more expensive there. The airplane is stored in a large heated hanger among all the business jets. I am sure the rent is steep. I am not sure what the monthly club fees are yet. Also - do you carry separate insurance or is it part of your club dues? At this point I think a club is the only way I will get to fly. Ownership just seems out of reach.
