do i have a chance?

the story is like this:

i'm 21,from greece,and as far as i can remember me i always wanted 2 become a pilot...
the thing is that here in greece, the only way to become a pilot is to go the military
flight school and after 20-25 years u can go to the airlines....
i'm interested in the airline biz,but my height wouldn't allow me to go to that school
when i had my chance (im 1.94cm,1.80 is top)
so,i just wanted 2 know if there is any way 4 me to become an airline pilot...
what do i have to do?
i surely can't afford to go to a university abroad...
i know most of you think i'm crazy even talkin about becoming a pilot, but i trully love this job!!!
i would appreciate any suggestion, even "you're crazy man!!!" would be good enough...
i just need to know....
it's my dream,at least i have to know i tried
thank you

Yes you do have a chance. I have a Greek friend who is an instructor and hope to get an Airline job when he reaches the hours. Another friend is about your height and he flies for an airline. I don’t know where you want to fly, in the US or Europe. The US/FAA system is cheaper and the requirements are not as difficult as the European system, however, both are expansive. You can study for either system in the US for lower price. To my belief you will need to spend at least $45,000 on training. CSE which is the biggest training organisation for ATPL in Europe charges for “0 hours to ATPL + I.R” ~ £65,000. You can do it for less but it still costs around the £30,000 mark. City University in London runs a 1 year course that will prepare you for the ATPL written exams, be ready to fail, most do fail some, some fail all. They are very difficult, but if you want hard enough you can.
Good luck!

Orie8..

FYI.. I have a friend we jokingly call "Jimmey the Greek". He immigrated to the United States, got his pilot's license here, became a U.S. citizen about 12 years ago and is now a Captain with a major U.S. Air Carrier.

He often told me of his "dreams" of becoming a pilot while still a young man in Greece. Well, he pursued those dreams and they came true for him. I'll bet they can for you, too.

Good Luck..

The best chance for anyone to become an airline pilot is to come to the U.S.A. There is no way for citizens of other countries to understand the relative ease of getting employed and being able to borrow the money for flight training. Financial systems simply don't exist outside the U.S. for easy credit. As some one said before the FAA system is much easier. Get to the U. S. and your dreams will come true.
