    Asthma and breathing problems

    Hi Everyone,
I just subscribed to this chat. I am training to be a helicopter pilot. I am not too deep into the training yet. There is one problem however, I have asthma. could anyone PLEASE reply with information about asthma in flying. How hard it is to get licensed. Also anything from any pilots (both commercial and pilot) that suffer or have suffered from asthma. I am sending this message to 2 groups because I really need a reply. I hope you don't think I am spamming and I appologise if you do.

    Thanks in advance

    Michael

Mild Asthema should not be a problem. My experience is as follows. (I sought a first class medical, I have no idea what a third class would entail).Your examiner will, however, probably be unable to issue a medical on the spot. I needed a letter from my usual doctor explaining that the asthema was brought on, in my case, only by exposure to cats and would not affect flying in the least. The letter had to be sent to Oklahoma City and my first class medical followed thereafter.

You should look for natural treatment of asthma. I read a book called asthma free naturally as written by Patrick McKeown. That this book is available online and details the Buteyko breathing method for asthma. He teaches Buteyko Breathing Clinic and many other methods. Have a look at www.asthmacare.ie You would surely be benefited.
