Embry-Riddle vs. My community college
O.k, here's my senerio and unanswerable question: I currently am attending a communtiy college in michigan for aeronautical science. I have roughly 35 hours total time and have .7 solo. I have passed both the private written and the commercial written(screwed up school). I haven't even looked at any instrument stuff yet. At the beginning of my enrollment I was told I should have no problem finishing by this upcoming december to transfer to Embry-Riddle where I will gain my 4 year status. My question is just this--since I just found out that I won't make the december deadline for the private/inst./commercial graduation requirement before I have to leave in December for E.R.A.U should I now just finish up my private at the community college and go down to Embry-Riddle a.s.a.p? Another curve that was thrown my way was the fact that I've already passed the commercial written and know that Embry-Riddle doesn't let you start flying until your junior year, which will be too long and the written will expire. Should I finish my private, go down to like American Flyers or some other accelerated flight school to gain my three big ones then go to Embry-Riddle as an advanced standing student or what?? I can't figure any of it out or put any of it on a timeline(which all of us are on!) Thanks!

Just Go to UND! Trust me its worth it, we just had a whole bunch of Riddle transfers come this past semester and they all like it better up here.

If you are leaving the community college you should be in your secound year anyway the commercial written is good for 2 years. As far as Emry Riddle I think it's just over rated for the amount of money that you will spend . If you live close to UND I would go there. I've heard alot of good things about there program and it cost alot less. I'm an intsructor at DSU in cleveland ms It's a pretty small school only about 16 aircraft.

I also will agree that ERAU is over-rated. Many of their pilots transfer to the flight program at Florida Institute of Technology (where i attend). UND, Western Michigan, Ohio State and Auburn all have great flight programs as well. Just a matter of where you want to be.
I'm a sophmore working on my multi-engine instructor rating now... F.I.T. has served me pretty well.

I am a UND grad and have to say that they delivered everything they said they would. Now and then there are always those who hit bumps along the way and I'm sure that there are poeple out there who would disagree with me. I have to say I really enjoyed the overall experience of going to UND. I have spoken to a number of people who have been to both schools and the vast majority agree that they preferred UND.

We had a lot of Riddle Xfers at Western Mich too; Have you checked out their program yet? It's a lot cheaper than Riddle, and you won't pay the out-of-state tuition that you'd have to pay at Riddle or UND (assuming you are in Mich).
What college are you currently attending now? Last edited by ok321letsjam; 06-10-2004 at 08:26 PM. Reason: one more thing... |
