Please advice

Hi,
I'm 32 , male . I'm thinking of taking up flying for a living( as a career).
I know it takes money and effort and dedication. Though it is expensive ( i hope to raise loans) i want to do it. But , BUT is it a good thought at this age to make this a career....??? a Big Question that has been bugging me.
Is this a good choice to make comfortable money. ( i know comfort levels would be different), can i make a decent living with this.

Thanking you all in advance.
sonty

You face some obstacles, living in Brooklyn. I don't know where you can go for instruction, but it is probably not close- probably pretty far out on the Island, maybe McArthur Field. If you are serious, a move (even temporary) might be in order.A good full syllabus resident flight school might be your best bet- get it done all at once, and they do help you get a job. You need to be able to pass a 1st class physical if you are looking for an ATP (Airline Pilot). Another answer would be the military if you can qualify for pilot training, you will get excellent training for free, get paid, see the world, etc. and if you don't want to make a career of the military, you will typically be qualified and ready for airline jobs.
As to the viability of making a living at it at your age,The airlines are definitely hiring. A captain makes an excellent salary, but you normally hire on as a first or second officer (co-pilot or flight engineer)-OK but not great pay and work your way up the seniority list.Their pilots are retiring in large numbers. Mandatory retirement for the airlines is presently your 60th birthday. It may difficult in a civilian job to get the required flying time for an ATP before you reach their maximum hiring age, and you can't fly for hire at all until you have an advanced licence (commercial, instrument,CFI etc). So you will have a pretty healthy expenditure of funds until you can make a few bucks as a CFI for instance. It is difficult for a newly minted commercial pilot to get hired for any flying job, except as a part-time CFI as a time builder, or a bush operation such as in Alaska. It can get a little discouraging on the way to the high flying airline position gravy train.
Good luck
