After the second flight

Hello ive been a student pilot for a month now and so far i have taken two flights. My instructor is a very good pilot not mentioning nerves of steel i believe. Know that my cousin that i hang out with is a private pilot of two years, my instructor allowed me to take off and land on the first lesson with little help from him. The experience was out of sight. I practiced straight and level and some turns but it was still more than i expected. Gun Ho from the first flight i couldnt wait on the second. I studied hard and anticipated the whole time then out of the blue it was time for the second flight. This time i performed the preflight on my own forgetting the to check the oil one of the most important checks on the list (ooooppps). I continued to do well the rest of the way. I kind of got the hang of taxing the airplane the first flight but in additiion this time i got to make the call to the tower. I did fine taxiing and beginning my run at about 65 my instructor asks me at what speed do we rotate, I answer with 85 (on a cherokee archer)he replies wacth your speed and pull back on the controls at 85 i do and im off into the second flight. This leesson i do s turns and i didnt do so well partially responsible to wind gusts and the archer is nose heavy my instructor says. To end this lesson he allowed me to get clearance and enter the traffic pattern and before i knew it i was at 25 flaps 70 airspeed on the base leg turning onto final. I got to experience having to add power to correct glide path and at the point of the flare i ballooned a bit but overall i did fine. eagerly awaiting my third flight i study even harder.

Hey Reece,Hey Reece,

I remember my first lessen it was in a 152 and the winds were blowing at 21kts and the instructor ask if I
Got seasick, (not). Needless to say it was like a roller coaster. The flight was short because of the winds
But the flight was not a waste because we got to fly @ 500 feet over NASA RUNWAY 3 MILE LONG and real wide, it looks like a parking lot. Anyway, If you learn one thing that is most IMPORANT about
Flying USE THE CHECKLIST ON EVERYTHING YOU DO… BEFORE DURING AND AFTER.
Even if you memorize the check lists look @ it and verifies you did it. 99.9 percent of the time plane fall
Out of the sky because of Pilot ERROR. Have fun and be Safe.

Steve

I am a student, one more solo flight away from my private pilot's, and let me tell you on my stage one check (Jeppsen's Sllyabus) I memorized the whole checklist.(that's the way I am)So I only used it for the system's check before take off. I flew okay, not my best flight, but still above the PTS. I landed expecting to attack the covedined 1st solo only to be notified the "lack of checklist was a clear violation of the PTS."

The moral of the story is that us student pilots live and die by the PTS. So use the checklist and live.

Hey Reece,
Im 16 and I soloed on my 16th birthday. I train in a 172. I find it useful to memorize the different steps for turns, climbs, decents (climb: raise the nose to 80 kts., full power, etc.)
